Psalms 71:9 Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.
A marvelous prayer that should become dearer to us with every passing day.
If you have an old parent, grandparent, relataive or friend, it can be a stark reminder of what could one day be your own state: old age, failing strength.
This is a prayer that you can pray with the other person for himself or herself, and simultaneously for you, no matter what your age, but all the more relevantly and poignantly when you yourself are in the autumn or winter of your life.
This is a prayer in the Bible, a prayer in David's personal prayer book, and surely God will answer this prayer to your heart's content.
He will not cast you off, nor forsake you.
Verse 18 says:
18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
David wants to go on testify of God's strength and power to all those of David's generation, and all those to come.
And praise God, He has never forsaken an old pilgrim yet, nor neglected an old servant.
With long life He will satisfy you and show you His salvation, peace, wellbeing, good health (all of which are encompasse in the meaning of the Hebrew shalom, translated here as salvation. Psalm 91:16.
