Hope has to do with possesions which are not ours now. For example, when dealing with one we love, we may wish that they might be saved, yet they may not be willing to receive salvation by faith. We cannot claim their salvation on the basis of our faith, but we can hope. Love hopeth all things.
There is thus an intimate link between hope and love, and, indeed, a link that connects faith, hope and love.
Hope has to do with the future (hence "patience of hope". While faith possesses salvation in the present, hope focuses on salvation future, which includes the rapture, the resurrection, the Millennial Kingdom, Heaven, and the New Jerusalem.
For another example, the Rapture is called "our blessed hope".
Or the Millennium Kingdom which can only be established after the Rapture and the Tribulation Judgments on a wicked world.
Then there's Heaven which we enter after death, if we are born again, and Heavenly Jerusalem which will only decend from God after the Millennium.
These are things we are absolutely assured of, but they belong to the Future.
As opposed to forgiveness of sin, which we have in the present.
Access to God in prayer, which we have in the present, any time and anywhere we desire.
Healing which, by faith, we can have in this present life.
So these last three, which we can have in this life belong in the realm of Faith, while the first three belong in th realm of Hope.
